Membership

Why become a member?

Members receive special early-bird notification of conferences, trainings and workshops and will also receive a discount on all conference, training, and workshop fees. Members will also have access to a multidisciplinary network of professionals interested in helping families.

Types of Membership

Clinical members are Malaysian practicing mental health professionals with a minimum of a Masters-level degree from a recognized and accredited institute and who specializes in providing mental health services to couples and families. These could be professionals from the fields of clinical psychology, counselling, psychiatry, and marriage and family therapy. A new member must be recommended and seconded by any other Clinical Member and application is subject to approval by the Board.

Associate members are Malaysian practicing mental health professionals with a minimum of a Masters-level degree in mental health from a recognized and accredited institute who is interested in the field of marriage and family therapy and does not meet the requirements for clinical membership. A new member must be recommended and seconded by any Clinical Member and application is subject to approval by the Board.

Student members are Malaysian students who are currently in a postgraduate degree in mental health from a recognized and accredited institution and are interested in practicing in the field of marriage and family therapy. These may include students from the fields of clinical psychology, counselling, psychiatry, and marriage and family therapy. The member must be recommended and seconded by any Clinical Member and subject to approval by the Board.

Affiliate members are any Malaysian citizens who are interested in the field of marriage and family therapy. The member must be recommended and seconded by any Clinical Member and subject to approval by the Board.

Membership Eligibility

Any individual who fits into one of the three categories below is eligible to become a member of MyMFT

Any Malaysian citizen above the age of eighteen (18) years, practicing as a mental health professional and possessing a minimum of a Masters-level degree from a recognized and accredited institute. The aforementioned Clinical Member specializes in providing mental health services to couples and families. This category includes professionals from the fields of clinical psychology, counseling, psychiatry, and marriage and family therapy.

Any Malaysian citizen above the age of eighteen (18) years, practicing as a mental health professional and possessing a minimum of a Masters-level degree from a recognized and accredited institute. This category includes any practicing mental health professional with a minimum of a Masters-level degree in mental health from a recognized and accredited institute who is interested in the field of marriage and family therapy and is not in any of the fields described under Clinical Member. The member must be recommended and seconded by any Clinical Member and subject to approval by the Board.

Any Malaysian citizen above the age of eighteen (18) years, who is interested in the field of marriage and family therapy. This category is also open to any Malaysian graduate student currently undertaking a postgraduate degree in the field of mental health from a recognized and accredited institution.

*All applications must be recommended and seconded by any Clinical member and is subject to approval by the board.

Application process

1) Fill out the form:

a) New Membership Application Form

b) Membership Renewal Form

2) Submit a one-time administrative Entry Fee of RM50 and the membership fees* for the category of membership that is being applied for.

3) Membership Applications should include the following documents:

a) Proof of Identity – One (1) copy of Malaysian Identity Card or Passport

b) Academic Record – One (1) copy of all relevant academic transcripts and degrees

c) Updated resume – If applying for Clinical Membership, please include experience (number of years and organization[s]) working with couples and families.

d) Two (2) academic/clinical references – Any two (2) credentialed mental health professionals registered with the Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology (MSCP), Lembaga Kaunselor, and the Malaysian Psychiatric Association.

Membership Fees

Entry Fee (For first-time applicants only): RM50

Membership Type and Fee:

Clinical Members: RM 150 per year

Associate Members: RM 130 per year

Affiliate or Student Members : RM 100 per year

Note: Not applicable for the duration of free membership given with specified MyMFT training programme
